Do kids need special smoothie recipes? Not necessarily; but if you make them fun and colorful, they are more likely to drink them :)! Yesterday Sprout was running a fever, so she refused any solids (including smoothies) and would only nurse. Today she was feeling much better, but still only wanted Mommy’s milk… until I whipped up this amazing fruit smoothie, and then her Daddy could not get the cup to her fast enough. If he missed her cue by a split second she would try to tell him in her “gum language” just how displeased she was :).
While I had made a lot of delicious smoothies she loves, the color of this one turned out to be especially pretty, due to one ingredient–yams (sweet potato). Who knew that mixing a little bit of orange with other berries would give such pretty purple hue to this smoothie?
I hope that you and your kids will enjoy it as much as Sprout enjoyed hers. (Psst… You can also add greens to this smoothie, and their color will be totally absorbed by the color of the berries ;).)
Mix in a high speed blender until smooth and enjoy the amazing color purple!
