Happy Monday! Let the cleanse* begin! I am so excited and looking forward to the results of this 3 day detox. I know that my body is excited as well, as I am now sipping on my delightful, berry and chard filled green smoothie. I am planning to continue my day with a ton of raw veggies, smoothies, and raw soup, with an addition of some beans and cooked barley, if I am going to feel I need them.
Cali, your comrade in arms, who is leading the first day of the detox, has chosen the same path as me, since she is also a nursing mamma. She is all set and ready to tell you about her day 1 and the progress she made.
About Cali
Hi! I’m Cali Hix- Mama, Wife, Pet Owner, Business Support Analyst, and the list goes on. 4 months ago I had the honor of bringing our beautiful little girl into this world. With that, I also brought an extra 50 lbs. along with her! Much of that weight naturally fell off by eating a vegan diet and nursing. It was last month’s amazing boot camp though, that brought me back to my pre-pregnancy weight!
As a new mom, I think it’s easy to fall into eating quick, processed, unhealthy foods, but that is not how I want to start off my daughter in this world. Since I am nursing my little one, everything I get, she gets. So it’s all that much more important what I put in my body!
After trying new recipes, eating more raw foods, and downing delicious green smoothies last month, even the thought of processed foods is really unappealing to me. In an effort to be more adventurous with recipes and to really give my system a great reboot, I’ve taken on the Green Smoothie challenge. For me, this will mean waking up early in the mornings to prepare for the day, fitting regular exercise into my daily routine, and staying focused on my goals. I’m excited to see the results over the next few days and hope to be an encouragement to you all! 🙂
3 Day Detox | Day 1
I woke up this morning a little bit groggy but ready to start the day. I drank a large glass of water this morning before I ate anything to give my body a chance to clear out what I put in the day before; then I took my B12 liquid supplement and headed to the kitchen for my first green smoothie. My little one, hubby, and I went to the farmers market yesterday and stocked up on some fresh, organic produce that was calling my name!
Maca Power Green Smoothie Recipe
For my first smoothie batch, I made a combo of
- 2 bananas
- 2 handfuls of strawberries
- 2 handfuls of spinach
- 1 tsp maca root powder
- almond milk
- 1 cup of ice
The combination of everything filled up 2 and a half jars which lasted me from about 9 am to 2 pm.
I felt awesome this morning- full but not weighed down, energetic, and just happy! 🙂
For lunch, we went out to eat at a restaurant and I ordered steamed rice and veggies. While it was tasty, I found myself craving another green smoothie instead! We came home, took a nap, then I woke up and made my second green smoothie batch.
Carrot Goodness Green Smoothie Recipe
The smoothie I’m currently enjoying consists of
- kale
- 1 large mango
- 1 large carrot
- 2 sweet oranges
- 3 tbsp chia powder
- almond milk
- a cup of ice
This combo filled up 3 full jars and will, hopefully, last me through the rest of the day.
I did notice that my back has started to break out a little bit, but that’s how my body tends to detox. It’s a pain, but it goes away after a few days and using organic soaps (which I also bought at the farmers market) seems to help quite a bit.
One fun thing I noticed is that my baby is much more energetic today than usual. I think the goodness she is getting from me is making her a happy baby too! I’ve actually found that over the last month while doing boot camp, my milk supply has gone up. I think that staying away from salty foods and maintaining a vegan diet has helped tremendously. As a new Mom, I find it so very important to put the right nutrition in my body so I have energy, strength and joy to take care of my little one. Eating raw and enjoying green smoothies daily definitely helps with this.
I’ve finally had the energy to start running again and going on walks with my baby. I feel so healthy and incredible. People tell me that I look great for having such a young baby. My skin is clear; I’ve lost all the weight I gained during pregnancy, my hair and nails are growing long and stronger every day. Everything has been so great, I just can’t see going back to my old way of life ever again! It really is a lifestyle change, not just a diet.
How is Your Day 1 Going?
How is your day 1 of the 3 day detox coming along? I know it is just the morning of day 1 (for most of us), but I would love to hear about your plans for the day, your recipes, and see delicious images of the goodness you made. You can take snaps of your creations with your phones, tablets, etc., and attach them in the comment section under this post! I know I would love to see them.
Tomorrow I am going to ask you how you finished Day 1 ;), so be ready with your report.
Slurp up the goodness!
