The finale! Last day of the 3 Day Detox! I cannot believe how quickly the other two have gone. If you missed the first two days and are just now catching up, make sure to check out these posts:
Yesterday I indulged in a couple of different green smoothie recipes. I added carrots to one and beets to another. One was made with kale and beet greens, the other with chard. Both–very delicious. I also had cooked brown rice pasta for my cooked meal, and made a HUGE pasta salad with: bell peppers of two different colors, tomatoes, zucchini, onions, dill and yellow zucchini squash. Dressed it with a tad of vinegar and mustard. I enjoyed it over a bed of greens, with an addition of freshly picked blueberries. I splashed a little bit of my second green smoothie, as a dressing over it.
I LOVED hearing from everyone who commented on the Detox posts, some even with pictures! L-O-V-E-D it! It makes this challenge so much more fun.
The last day of the cleanse in going to begin with Susan’s post.
About Susan
Hi, I’m Susan Carey, a 35-year old, mother of a very rambunctious 16-month old son, as well as a high school teacher, who avidly travels for not only my career, but also for pleasure in the summers.
3 Day Detox | Day 3
The goal for my three day cleanse was NOT weight loss, but to detox and clear my system to restart where I felt I had been lagging. I know that I can usually triumph through days one and two, and that by day three, I’m experiencing my symptoms. Today was no exemption, and it might be altitude change (as I am in Colorado visiting my parents), or lack of sleep (my husband is finishing the tail end of his Bar Prep course for the Bar Exam in a few weeks, so I’m losing sleep helping him de-stress), but I started my day with a gnarly, horrible headache, and for some reason (might be all of the tomatoes I’ve consumed), heartburn. However, I did not let it dampen my spirits. I drank 32 ounces of the following GS (green smoothie) for breakfast. You can’t see the blueberry color, but it was amazing.
Rockin’ Body Green Smoothie Recipe
- 4 bananas
- 1 orange
- 1 apple
- 3 cups of water
- 9 ounces of baby spinach
- 2 tablespoons of Flax Seed
- 2 tablespoons of Chia Seed
- 1 tablespoon of Hemp Seed
**BLEND TOGETHER THEN ADD**
- 1 package fresh strawberries
- 1 small package blueberries
I blend all together (in two batches for a smaller blender), and it will yield roughly 80 ounces. After my morning GS, I drank lots of water, and when I felt myself getting hungry around lunch time, I ate a banana, and a handful of grape tomatoes (from a local farmer at home in Kansas). I then ate a large romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumber, baby spinach, onion, carrot, celery, rinsed and drained black olive salad. I also finished the remainder of the above mentioned GS, and consumed more water. I just used fresh squeezed lemon juice as my dressing. Since I am traveling, I do not have any fancy pictures of my salads, but I can assure you that it was delicious!
When dinner rolled around, my detox symptoms were starting to subside, and I began to feel MUCH better. I ate another large salad like the one above, but included some sunflower seeds, as well as homemade, whole wheat bread for “bulk.” Again, I used lemon juice as my dressing.
For dessert, my son and I shared a giant bowl of strawberries and bananas. I also ate an apple and am in the process of drinking the “Get the Nasty Out” smoothie from the High On Raw Cookbook. I’m not feeling sluggish or drained as I have in past cleanses, so I can tell that my clean eating is really starting to help curb those problems. I should also add, I am one that LOVES to drink my GS’s, however, I have a mental block, where I have to “eat” my food rather than “drink” my food, rather than make a hearty, salad like smoothie, I’ve chosen to just eat salads in conjunction with my GS’s during the challenge. I’ve done plenty of walking and running after my kiddo today, and have (since my parents live in the country) walked lots through the pasture today. I’m used to going about three to four brisk miles every evening, so I wanted to stick to that routine while I am traveling.
How was YOUR Day 3?
Susan is amazing and is always an inspiration to everyone around her, I’m sure.
